Zhang Jiabao, born on 1 September 1957 in Gaoyou, Jiangsu Province, is a soil scientist, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, researcher and doctoral supervisor at the Nanjing Soil Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Zhang Jiabao has carried out systematic, in-depth and innovative research on the two major problems faced by China's low- and medium-yield fields, namely, the high number of soil obstacles and the low level of soil fertility. He has created a theoretical and technological system for classifying and reducing soil obstacles, stimulating rapid fertiliser cultivation, and water and soil joint management for flood-prone farmland, and has innovated soil parameter detection techniques and equipment. As a leader, he has established the China Farmland Experiment Station Networking Research Platform and the National Engineering Laboratory of Soil Nutrient Management, and achieved innovative research results in the management of low- and medium-yield fields, the construction of high-standard farmland, and the improvement of soil strength.
